Haitian Earthquake Relief Response

In response to the horrific earthquake in Haiti, the American Red Cross is accepting monetary donations to support relief efforts there.  Donations specifically for Haitian relief should have the code AP2885 Haitian relief on checks. 

The American Red Cross is not accepting in-kind donations for international response.

 

 

 

Updated Eton Radios Now Available 

In a continuing partnership, the American Red Cross and Eton Corporation are working together to provide powerful, convenient emergency radios to people, allowing them to be prepared in times of emergency.

  

· AM, FM and NOAA channels (all 7 weather bands)

· Built-in hand crank power generator or solar cells recharge internal Ni-MH battery                       

· Charge cell phones thru a USB port (cable not included) 

· 3-LED flash light operates off of hand crank/solar charger

· Light-weight – weighs 8.5 oz.                                                                                     

  

 

The FR160 is an updated version of the popular FR150.  Now available in red or white, the newer unit has a USB port for charging cell phones.  This radio is available through the Clark County Red Cross.  Each unit is $30.00, plus shipping and handling.  A portion of each sale goes to local disaster relief efforts. 

 

Also available are the FR360 and the FR600, each with more advanced features.

H1N1 (Swine) Flu Information Available

The H1N1 influenza, alson known as Swine Flu, is once again on the minds of many people as we enter fall and students have returned to school and college.  This is the first global fllu pandemic in 41 years, and as of August 30, the Workd Health Orginzation (WHO) reported more than 254,000 labratory-confirmed cases of H1N1 influenza virus with at least 2837 deaths.

The H1N1 virus is a potentailly serious health issure for individuals, families, schools and businessees across the country and world.  The federal governemnt estimaes that as much as 40% of the U.S. populatio could become ill with the flu this fall and winter.

While it is uncertain how widespread or severe the H1N1 flu virus will be this year, there are simple things people can do right now to prepare for it.  The American Red Cross recommends that people follow common-sense public health practices and store extra supplies - steps that will be helpful for both the H1N1 vires and the seasonal flu vires each year.
